Introduction

A Close Protection Officer is more commonly known as a Bodyguard,
exercising his function either as a team or, during a mission, in full autonomy. He is
responsible for ensuring the protection of people during professional or private trips
while remaining in compliance with the law.He is capable of securing and intervening to protect the person (s). He is a privileged interlocutor and a «facilitator» of life for the people to be protected and his entourage. He works discreetly.

It is increasingly important to give an international dimension to a career as a CPO.
This must pointed to the largest international bodies (NATO, EU, NGO’s, UN,
etc.). Appropriate and optimal training AS WELL as an internationally recognised certificates will be a major asset in any international application for such a post.

 

Course Objectives

The main objective of this training is to train you in the protection of client (s), to
work alone or in a team, to learn how to assess the risks and threats in civilian environments as well as in complex and hostile areas. At the end of the course, the trainee will have all the bases to start operating on a mission.

 

Course Structure

Unit 1: Working as a close protection officer

• Understand the roles and responsibilities of a close protection officer
• Understand basic surveillance, anti-surveillance and counter-surveillance techniques
• Understand the legislation relating to a close protection officer
• Understand the importance of interpersonal skills in a close protection environment
• Understand the importance of recognition in a close protection environment
• Understand search procedures in a close protection environment
• Be able to establish and maintain secure environments

Unit 2: Planning, preparation and support of a close protection operation

• Understand the importance of threat assessment, risk management and operational planning
• Understand the importance of teamwork and operational briefing in a close
protection environment
• Understand close protection “on foot” exercises
• Understand the importance of planning route selection
• Understand the importance of transport management in the close protection
environment
• Understand incident management in a close protection environment
• Understand site security operations
• Be able to plan and prepare for a close protection operation
• To be able to ensure the close protection of a «principal»

Unit 3: Conflict management in the private security industry

• Principles of conflict management
• Recognize, assess and reduce risks
• Communicate in emotional situations to defuse a conflict,
• Develop and use problem solving strategies to resolve conflicts
• Good practices to follow after conflict situation

 

Course Duration

The course run over 8 intensive days, including the HEAT module

 

Entry Criteria (Fast-Track pathway)

• A valid, in-date and internationally recognised BLS-AED qualifications
• 18yrs old of minimum age
• Clean criminal records in the Country of origin (to be provided before course starting)
• A good command of English, French or Italian language either spoken, read and written (online training and official written exams also available in French language)

 

Course Delivery

The course is a mixed/blended combination of online theory (completed before arriving for the class/practical components) and practicals excersise. Medical moulages, final summative, comprehensive close protection operation.

Assessment takes the form of:

• RPL and Personal & Professional dossier
• Pre-course test completed online
• A final official written examination
• Skills demonstrations
• Final/Summative, realistic, assessment close protection operation
